Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, lying 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed corner leading to the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
