World Series Game 7 Captures 51M Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a combined 51 million spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB announced this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game finished in 13th place.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series recorded 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average reached over 16 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase over last year and the network’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
